Day 0. Llanidloes to Cwmbiga

Sunday, 21 August.

We went to breakfast at 8:30 am at the Mount and luckily we were one of the first groups there. It turned out they were very busy. We were out on the road by 10am heading for Cwmbiga by Glyndwr's Way, one of the UK's National Trails.

We set off in slight drizzle climbing up through a wooded area to join a golf course. The club house, with a waterproof Shiel outside, is shown below.

Sadly we are writing this up 3 days late and our memory of events is sketchy. We did blog on the day but for some reason it failed to upload and so we are doing it again.

The walk was a pleasant mix of wooded areas and farmland. However there must have been problems with dogs attacking sheep as there are some pretty graphic warning signs. See below.

There was some road walking but the roads were not too busy. We eventually came to a dam at the end of the Clywedog reservoir and by this time the sun was shining. I've added a photo below.

We then had to lose all the height we had gained to cross the river leaving the reservoir, near some old lead mine workings. We decided to stop there for lunch and I took the photo shown below. The blue blob is Shiel.

We climbed up the other side of the dam via the road where I took the final photo for the day. We then dropped down through woods to follow a shaded path along the edge of the reservoir. Sadly at this time it started to rain again, hence the lack of photos.

Eventually the path left the reservoir near a sailing club and headed cross country via farming and forestry areas to Cwmbiga. We arrived just before 5pm, bpth quite tired. A 7 hour day for only just over 18km. A bit slow but it's the first day and there was a lot of up and down!
